"LAUREL AND HARDY
FROM THE FORTIES FORWARD"
byScott MacGillivray
Some
might think that "Magic Behind the Movies" or "The L&H
Encyclopedia." might be their bible on the boys. For me this new book
is my 'bible'. A lot has been written on the boys solo work and the teamwork
of the 20s & 30s, but this is the first book which has concentrated on
the 1940s onwards. It is thoroughly researched with quotes and interviews
from Lois Laurel and the boys friends and co-stars from this period. Each
chapter is devoted to a specific film or incident. Therefore there are chapters
on GREAT GUNS (12pp), A HAUNTING WE WILL GO (10 pp), AIR
RAID WARDENS (10pp), TREE IN A TEST TUBE (4pp), JITTERBUGS
(14pp), DANCING MASTERS (14pp), The Studio System (6pp),
BIG NOISE (12pp), NOTHING BUT TROUBLE (8pp), BULLFIGHTERS
(12pp), Theatrical Reissues (looks at the Roach reissues) (12pp), Leaving
Hollywood (looks at unfilmed projects & the UK tours) (8pp),
ATOLL K (12pp), The 1950s (12pp), Robert Youngson (24pp). The book
is hardcover consisting of 224pp, with index and about 40pp of excellent
photos. The books is American and published by Vestal Press.
