British sailor Jack Marley, second from the left, in between James Finlayson and Stan Laurel. When Jacks ship docked in California, according to Jacks private cleaner (who ended up with this photo), Laurel And Hardy did a short film on his ship. HMMMM...does this mean there were some on board ship scenes filmed. But surely they would have used a US Navy ship. The story goes that, because Jack was from the North East of England he was introduced to Stan who he later became friends with. The message on the back reads to Jack Marley with all best wishes Oliver Hardy & Stan Laurel U.S.A. 1929. This picture taken in Hollenbeck Park Los Angeles California U.S.A. by Hal Roach Studios in the morning of May 8th 1929. I suspect this was taken by STAX the studio photographer, and then mailed over to Jack in England.

A special thanks must go to Bob Satterfield of the 'Way out West' Tent who found many of the 'Laurel and Hardy' locations. I fully recommend that you try and get hold of the special 'PRATFALL' magazine called 'Laurel and Hardywood', although it may be out of print now.
Bob has been our tour guide on many occasions when we have toured the locations.
