There'll be double-trouble at the Helpmates' Convention - on 27 October 2007 - when we have not ONE set of Laurel & Hardy performers, but TWO. Yes in-diddly-deed, Conventioneeroes, we'll have "Stan and Rob" - look-alikes, with a good sprinkling of Comedy-Magic and Illusion thrown in; plus Bud and Steve - in the guise of the Boys from "Way Out West" and proficient in the art of "Dance along-a-Dinah." To avoid confusion on the day, Bud & Steve will be known as "Bert & Alf" - brothers of "Stan & Ollie."
The Film Show will reinforce the Theme of Day, with the showing of "Our Relations," "Twice Two," and "Brats" - three films in which, as you know, Laurel and Hardy played dual roles. (Unlike "The Fixer Uppers," in which they played duel roles!! Get it?).
Although this is billed
as a "Helpmates" Convention it is open to members of ALL Tents, Worldwide.
At the last Convention we were joined by Grand Sheiks Bram Reijnhoudt, Roger
Robinson; Peter Andrews, and Howard Parker, plus several members from other
Tents. And this meeting looks like surpassing visitor numbers from other
Tents, plus Helpmates themselves.
We gear our entertainment to suit both sexes and all ages - so don't be afraid to bring along your wives, partners and/or children (although we do ask that you supervise your children at all times). We can't announce all the attractions at this stage in time, but A.J. Marriot and I do have a few surprises lined up.
Tickets are already moving well, and the rooms we have in reserve are slowly but surely being filled. Several Sons have also booked the Friday night as well. This is a great time to socialise with your fellow Sons, as sometimes at Conventions there is so much going on that you barely get time to sit down for a chat.
There will be two film rooms running concurrently, from midday - till late, screening Laurel & Hardy films on the Big Screen in a variety of formats:- 8mm; 16mm film, and USA and UK Video and DVD. Other attractions will be announced when confirmed.
At our events, you can choose how you spend your time. Some people like to chat at the bar, or socialise in one of the rest areas; while others pick and choose which films or presentations to watch in our two screening rooms. And, for the large numbers of you who love to collect Laurel & Hardy Memorabilia, our well-stocked sales room will be open all day with enough goodies to satisfy everyone - from the smallest to the biggest collectors. If you are the shy type, don't worry. You will not be asked to play any games or dress-up in fancy dress. You can stay on your own and go where you like, or there will be "Helpmates' Hosts" on hand to introduce you to other members, if you so wish.
Tickets are £12.50 for Adults, and £5 for Children (under 14). Your entrance ticket gives you unlimited access to ALL our function rooms.

Lots of our members continue to socialise into the early hours of the following morning. Others are tired after travelling long distances and spending the whole day with us. Fortunately, as this is a hotel, they can all book an overnight stay. Some even come the previous night, so as not to miss out on anything. You can book an optional 3-Course Carvery Lunch (through us) in the Restaurant, for £15.50p per head. Vegetarian meals will also be on offer. You can either charge it to your room, if you are staying, or pay on the day. There will also be a full range of bar meals on offer throughout the day, for those who just want to grab a snack, plus all-day coffee.

Getting to the hotel is easy, due to its close access from both the M2 (Jct. 3) and the M20 (Jct. 6) motorways which both link with the M25. There is also easy access to Eurostar International Station at Ashford, Le Shuttle, and Ferry services to the continent from Folkestone and Dover.
